I am so stoked to be sharing two things with you – the above DOHtrait of Gilda and me by Jeaux Janovsky and this awesome interview with him below. We met Jeaux through our friend Ava and we are so happy to have met him. He is so super talented, interesting and very sweet. Dudes, that portrait is a dream come true!
Please tell us a little bit about yourself and some of your current obsessions. I am a cartoonist, animator, and professional doodler. Current obsessions include: Muppets, Boardwalk Empire, pizza, Walt Kelly’s Pogo, Motown, the Marx Brothers, Woody Allen, Federico Fellini, and Christmas lights.
Tell us a story from your childhood. When I was little, I tried staying up to see Santa. I left out some cookies and milk, wrapped myself up in a blanket and snuggled up in my dad’s armchair and waited. I don’t know if it was lack of sleep or deliriousness, but I swear (to this day) that I watched 2 glowing red orbs of light materialize and dart around the room, spin around the tree, and zoom right up in front of my eyes and hover there for a bit before speeding off and out the window. Aliens? Ghosts? Santa’s spirit? I’ll never know.
What is the first memory that comes to mind? In 8th grade, my friend Chris Ellis (RIP) and I were at his grandmother’s house. She took us to her bedroom to show us something under her bed. In a box, were original animation cels from Disney’s Snow White! I remember holding a cel of the evil queen in my hands, Chris and I both exclaiming, “Whoooooaaa!” It turned out that Chris’ grandmother was an ink and paint girl for Walt Disney for a few years, and she snagged herself a whole box worth of original cels! This inspired me to become an animator, and is a memory I will never forget and will always cherish.
What is something you heard or saw recently that has stuck with you?
W/ today’s information overload, my ADD-riddled brain finds comfort via Tumblr (feel free to follow me at http://lumber.tumblr.com/).
Here are a few things that have stuck with me recently! [in no particular order]
a) Quote by Hermann Hess
b) Bjork’s Unravel
c) Pessimism vs Optimism

e) Herge drawing Tintin
f) Happy
g) Alright
h) 30 things to stop doing to yourself
i) Charles Bukowski on depression
j) Weapons of choice
What would be a dream come true?
I’ve got a million dreams! Here’s my top 5!
5) To get a car.
4) To get a better job.
3) To travel more, roadtrips, to see the world.
2) To publish my own comic, children’s book, or graphic novel. Also, to produce my own cartoons, make a short film, to tell stories.
1) To get my own place, and to eventually share that space and my life with my significant other, Ava Alamshah http://yourfriendava.blogspot.com/.
Thanks so much Jeaux!

It seems that Jeaux has an endless supply of dreams. I have no doubt that a man of his talents will accomplish these top five by the end of 2012.
Cheers to Jeaux!
